Writers and Aspiring Writers
Supporting Each Other and Promoting the Craft of Writing

The Hanover Writers Club began in September, 2003 in order to fill the need for a local writers group. At that time, there were groups in the West End and Southside of Richmond, but none for the north-eastern suburbs. Joanne Liggan and Mary Ann Croy approached Hanover Parks and Recreation about creating a club and were encouraged by the enthusiasm shown by the department.

For several months, the group met at the activities center at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville. Due to conflicting groups meeting at that location, they moved to the Mechanicsville Library. Beginning January, 2012, the meetings will be held in the meeting room at the Eastern Hanover Fire Station #3 on the third Tuesday of each month from 6:30 - 8:30 pm. Anyone interested in the craft of writing is welcomed.

Meetings include a chat session (we share our writing experiences and accomplishments and discuss upcoming events), a critique session (we read each others work and give thoughtful and constructive comments), and sometimes, time permitting, a short lesson or observation. A few meetings during the year are set aside for guest speakers or social gatherings. All meetings are geared to support our members, encourage them to write, and help them improve their craft.

Every year since the club's inception, at least one book by a member of the Hanover Writers has been published.  Visit our Members' Page to learn more.
